The Coastal Academies Trust’s Career and Professional Development Leadership Pathway has been designed to grow our future leaders from Early Careers Teachers, who are starting their journey, to those more experienced colleagues who are seeking Headship.
The Aspiring Middle Leader and Aspiring Senior Leader Programme centre around three modules: Raising Aspirations (teaching, learning and assessment); Curriculum (intent and vision); Pastoral (behaviour and attitudes.) These are presented and tackled through scenarios which challenge participants to think critically under pressure and reflect on the impact their decisions may have.
Participants are encouraged to engage with pre-reading material which provokes opinions and debate, as well as post-tasks which are designed to consolidate learning and support the practical application of theory.
Facilitated by experienced senior leaders, who are equipped to challenge participants to critically analyse a variety of leadership theories, as well as provide opportunities for self-reflection. Participants work collaboratively throughout the day, experiencing what the reality of leading change within a team is like. This allows participants to reflect on their own communication skills and discuss what their next steps need to be in order to develop.
Guest speakers from a range of settings enhance the days by sharing their own leadership experiences, generating discussions on the rationale behind their decision making as well as the impact of it.
Hosted by a variety of schools allows participants the opportunity to participate in focused learning walks, experiencing different subjects and phases. This cross-phase collaboration and networking supports participants in their understanding of educational challenges outside of their context, thus preparing them for future leadership opportunities.
